The diaspora of the small

Estimated read time 2 min read

One of the most horrific events from this world was the xenophobic hatred towards the gnomes and halflings.

Goblin hatred for controlling the trade-routes led to an irrational outcry against all the small races of the known world.

Gnomes and halflings became victims of the hate and greed. The richer goblin families, the line of Alhandria, bought mercenary armies and wizards to protect them against those with xenophobic tendencies.

This also placed a renewed focus on alchemy and engineering research, for the goblin races. Some built for protection and others planned empires of technology.

The gnomes and halflings where already splintered among all the races. When the fear and loathing spread among the masses, they swarmed the smaller races. There was no united front, no chance for the halflings and the gnomes.

Many were killed, imprisoned or put in large camps and they slowly declined in numbers. Malnutrition, hunger and suicide took them down in numbers even further. A select few gnomes and halflings managed to escape, via an arcane portal, to safety.

No one has seen them in years.

Seeking forgiveness

After 25 years of irrational hatred, the dwarven nation took note of the improvements made in technology, by the goblin empire. The king called the clans representatives to council and after heated discussions between the Markan and Krulna clans, there was a call to find a common ground.

The dwarves and goblins started with a large exchange of technology, worked metals and raw materials. Indabas where workshops and talks where held became commonplace between the two races.

The others nations slowly warmed up. Sending diplomats in paladins, clerics and druids to bring tributes and seek forgiveness. The humans, orcs and wood-elves joined next.

The H’irth elves showed the least compassion, believing themselves always to be higher than others, in the plight of the smaller races.

One elf was quoted in saying, “We are all saddened by the loss of the halflings and gnomes, but we still have the goblins left. Could have been worse”.

With this new platform to work on, the goblins renegotiated better trade deals and secured financial growth for their race.
